What is the Middle Fork Greenway?
The Middle Fork Greenway is a multi-use recreational trail being developed to connect Blowing Rock to Boone, providing residents and visitors of all ages safe and healthy access to the natural world while protecting the environment and strengthening our local economy.
The Middle Fork Greenway is a Blue Ridge Conservancy project in partnership with the Town of Blowing Rock, Town of Boone and Watauga County. With the help of many partners and driven by input from community members, the Middle Fork Greenway is coming to life segment by segment.
The NCDOT funded a Feasibility Study on Sections 3 and 5 of the Middle Fork Greenway. Below, you will find an hour-long presentation, and link to download a pdf of the presentation slides. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and will provide the framework for prioritizing recommended routes for these two sections of the Middle Fork Greenway.
For planning purposes, the Middle Fork Greenway is broken up into six sections from Blowing Rock to Boone as seen on the map above. Each of the sections have multiple phases to complete. Below is a chart that prioritizes the next phases to be constructed. People ask why we’re not building the greenway all at once with constant connection. The answer is that we are building the sections/phases where we have access, funding, and permitting.
